At Spahaus we are delighted to offer our customers through our connections in the timber industry high-grade Canadian Western Red Cedar at a very affordable price.
Western Red Cedar deserves its reputation as the premier cladding material.
No2 Clear and Better cedar as supplied by Spahaus is the highest grade of cedar currently imported to the UK. This grade of cedar which comes from the west coast of North America is almost knot free and is unrivalled in its resistance to cupping, warping and general movement. Canadian Western Red Cedar has a dark, warm colour and is a much hardier timber than its European cousin, lasting for almost twice as long.
Although many in the timber industry sell cedar marked as Western Red Cedar, much of what is sold in the UK today is actually knotty Northern White Cedar, which does not have the classic aroma, durability and natural beauty of Canadian Western Red Cedar.
Due to its natural rot resistant properties Western Red Cedar can be left untreated which provides an attractive silver colour and still offers a lifespan of several decades. If the natural colour is preferred the timber can be stained to taste with a variety of lightly pigmented wood stains. This will maintain the natural colour for longer and extend its durability even further.
Canadian Western Red Cedar has excellent dimensional stability which means it shrinks & swells minimally due to changes in humidity. Western red cedar also maintains steady moisture content – in tests dried timber at 6-10% moisture content was left covered outside for one year & found to have a moisture content of 9-11% which then remained constant. As mentioned No2 Clear Canadian Western Red Cedar is unrivalled in its resistance to cupping, warping and general movement.
At Spahaus we keep three profiles in stock: TGV, Shadow Gap and Shiplap.
We can also machine a variety of other profiles.
Shadow Gap profile cladding interlocks top and bottom allowing it to be used either horizontally or vertically.
This profile is square cut and provides a contemporary designer look with minimal waste in the machining process.
Tongue and Groove (with a V) profile cladding interlocks top and bottom allowing it to be used either horizontally or vertically. TGV cladding is named for its appealing v-shaped chamfer and provides a simple flat-faced appearance.
